Norris Dam was the first project of the Tennessee Valley Authority and later Norris Dam State Park was formed to highlight the recreation to be found on newly created Norris Lake. Cove Lake State Park, Norris Dam State Park, and Big Ridge State Park are sister parks of this early TVA era. Big Ridge is about 10 miles from Norris Dam State Park in Union County (another great part of a day trip or mini vacation).
